About The Glancynon Inn The Glancynon itself was built way back in 1887. However things were much different then and it consisted of public house and china shop. The owner Mr Alun Evans purchased in 1971 making him the youngest licensee in the United Kingdom at the mere age of 18. Before opening the Glancynon Alun played rugby for Cardiff and achieved an u18 cap for Wales. Alun started to alter the building in 1972 by building the extension which is now the lounge and the back bar. Wanting to enhance the building and its facilities even more the bay window and cellar bar were created in 1976 and 1978 The millennium marked the opening of our fine restaurant, after the smoking ban we opened our "Smokers Paradise" beer garden in October 2006. In 2007 after teaming up with Accessible Wales we have tackled the access for people with disabilities installing an accessible toilet, ramps and handrails, Braille menus, shop mobility scooter park and accessible parking. We have appeared Good Beer Guide 2008 - see our review below: "A large country pub with oak beams and a congenial atmosphere. The main outlet for real ale in the area, It is popular with drinkers and diners. Booking is essential..." The guide also went on to say the following "...The pleasant lounge is comfortable with a split level bar at the back. A little way off the main road, it is no the less easy to find." Out of interest.... Mr Alun Evans formed the Welsh Whiskey company over a pint of beer with friends Tony James and Brian Morgan!. Click here to visit the Welsh Whisky website. We
are proud to announce we have been awarded bt RCT the following: |
